THE USE OF COOPERATIVE LEARNING IN IMPROVING COGNITIVE SKILLS AMONG  MATHEMATICS REMEDIAL PUPILS

ABSTRACT

 

The study investigated if cooperative learning structure function named “RoundRobin & AllWrite Consensus” (CL) were able to assist  Year 2 Special Rehabilitation Program pupils to acquire better mastery in basic operations. The groups were intervened with CL for 30 minutes in 30 interventions for 12 weeks. Their achievement was evaluated through a pretest and a posttest; and the respondents’ skills in the cognitive domain were examined through analyses on Item Response Model. The study showed that the respondents acquired better  skill at knowledge recall and comprehension understanding  level. However, the respondents still faced difficulties with the skill at application-transfer level after the intervention.
